Having a popular website

Having a popular website requires a fantastic web hosting provider. It doesn’t matter how hard you work when promoting your website and getting it as popular as possible because as soon as your website goes down due to a host that isn’t very reliable all your hard work goes out the window.

The fact is if you have regular visitors who like reading your content if they come by to find your website is down they will more than likely look elsewhere and not bother coming back to yours – because a little unplanned downtime is all it takes.

No one can really prevent downtime 100% but by going to a host that offers at least 99.9% guaranteed uptime with that 0.01% going on planned downtime for software and hardware upgrades you can be sure you won’t run into any future problems. Most reliable and professional web hosts have their own data centers and 24/7 technical support staff so if there was an issue they can get it fixed promptly.

As a professional web developer I would recommend purchasing a dedicated server if you plan to run a few serious websites, I’ve had my fair share of shared hosting accounts and most of them never did me any favors – in fact I was probably spending more time trying to find a reliable hosting provider than I was developing websites! Having a dedicated server isn’t always going to save you either but it’s a lot easier to get a dedicated server in a professional data center than trying to find a professional web host who is probably situated on a dedicated server anyway.

If you are only starting out but you want to run a serious website and maybe at one stage take things to the next level then do not ever get sucked in to using a free hosting service. These are fantastic if you’re starting out and want to know how to use web hosting accounts but really, it just isn’t worth the hassle because you will have more down time than uptime more or less guaranteed – and even if you did manage to find a good free hosting account it will probably end up being slow and there is always the chance you can lose all your files and you have no one to blame but yourself!

Invest in a reliable hosting service no matter the cost and you can then spend on the important aspects of web development like developing websites rather than finding a new web host every week!
